"Thank you so much for the banners. They are fantastic. Your work is A1."
John Taylor Great Canada Exit Exchange
The functionality and user-friendliness of the site are all-important, as is the need to direct the visitor's attention so as to obtain the outcomes you are seeking. Simplicity of navigation and understanding are my two main purposes, and a number of my clients have been delighted with how easy their sites are to understand and get around - not only for themselves but even more importantly, their visitors. When I read Steve Krug's great book "Don't make Me Think" I was delighted to find how close I was already to many of the precepts it contains.
What the visitor sees in the first few seconds of the site loading will determine whether he or she stays or leaves. The copy, the colors / images / layout must reinforce the message of the site and inspire the visitor to look further. My other priority is that this first glimpse convey the message of professionalism and quality.
It's important to get away from "run-of-the-mill". People on the net can see hundreds of sites a day. They need to have something to remember your site by or it will be lost in a blur of memory. This means branding, and copy alone will not do it - so you need site graphics and layout that identify you immediately.
While I am not an "ad copywriting pro", I have written in a commercial setting for a number of years, and my site copy has been favourably commented on by a sales expert. I have articles accepted for syndication, so I can be of assistance on the copywriting side of website design, for those who need a little help in that direction.
My sites tend to speak from the heart, as the first step in the all-important process of establishing rapport with the viewer. Many "commercial" websites fail totally to do this and for this reason they are easily forgotten. The more a site can convey a feeling of the human touch, the more successful I believe it will be.
Customising Templates.I also have a real flair for taking a bought template and redesigning it (sometimes quite drastically) to suit a particular job. Having both the Graphics and the HTML capability allows me to make considerable changes if need be, and the results can be quite stunning.
